Location and Transportation

The school will take place primarily at DTU Lyngby, with one day of activities taking place at DTU Risø.

DTU Lyngby

DTU Lyngby is located in Lyngby, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday lectures will take place on DTU’s Lyngby campus: TBD, Matematiktorvet, 2800 Kongens Lyngby, Denmark. Lunch will be served in building 329A on these days.

Arrival on DTU Lyngby Campus is easiest by bus. You can catch the 150S or 15E directly from Nørreport station in the city center, or catch a variety of busses from the center of Lyngby (180, 181, 190, 300S etc). You can see the locations of bus stops on campus relative to Building 306 in the below image. Please note that the exact location of the stops may very due to ongoing construction at DTU Lyngby.

DTU Risø

DTU Risø is located on the peninsula Risø in Roskilde Fjord 7 km north of the historic town of Roskilde and 40 km west of Copenhagen. Wednesday activities will take place at DTU Risø. More specifically the lecture will take place in the Niels Bohr Auditorium in Building 112, while lunch and other activities will take place at the PES facilities at Building 330.

Arrival on DTU Risø Campus is easiest by a combination of train and bus. You can catch the regional train from Copenhagen central station, Nørreport St., or Østerport St. to Roskilde St. This takes approximately 30-45 minutes. From here you can catch either bus 600S or bus 216 to DTU Risø. This will take approximately 15 minutes. If you are staying in Lyngby, you will be required to take an additional bus or train into Copenhagen first. Please note that there is still a 10-15 minute walk to the facilities after arriving at the DTU Risø campus gate. You can see the exact location of the auditorium and the PES facilities in the image below.

Public Transport in Copenhagen

For information on public transport in and around Copenhagen please see the following link: https://www.publictransport.dk/. We have also tried to summarize the main points and tips for you below.

  • Zones: Fares for public transport throughout Copenhagen and its surroundings are calculated using a zone system. For example, travelling from the airport to the city center (København H, central station) requires crossing 3 zones (4-3-1) while traveling from the city center to DTU Lygnby requires crossing 5 zones (1-2-30-41-51). Each zone you cross during your trip will increase the cost of transport. For more details please see the following link: https://www.visitcopenhagen.com/copenhagen/transportation/zones
  • For easy navigation, you are encouraged to use the Rejseplanen application available for both iOS and Android (website version at http://www.rejseplanen.dk). Google maps also does quite a good job, but does not update in real time like the Rejseplanen app.
  • Single trip tickets as well as city passes can be purchased at ticket machines (only available at certain stations) or on your phone using the DOT Tickets app for iOS or Android.
  • A potentially cheaper way to get around Copenhagen and its surroundings is to purchase a Rejsekort. Check this link for vending machine locations. It will cost 80 kr. for the card itself, and you must always have a minimum balance on the card. By using the rejsekort you pay only 37 DKK on your trip to DTU Lyngby from Copenhagen, as opposed to 46DKK. Depending on the distance you are travelling and how often you travel, this may be cheaper than single trip tickets or a city pass. Check how to use the Rejsekort following this link: https://www.rejsekort.dk/Hjaelp/Saadan-rejser-du
